Given that significant employment expansion comes from within and that the number of
local businesses has increased dramatically over the past decade to more than 5,000 firms, the OED’s domestic marketing and retention activities involves an active corporate calling and intelligence gathering program, strategic alliance matchmaking services, as well as export promotion partnership activity with the region and province.
The Office of Economic Development (OED) is responsible for attracting new investment to Richmond Hill, working with local businesses to help them expand, assisting in the relocation of new or existing businesses to the area and providing support to small business entrepreneurs within the community.
The OED offers a wide range of services to facilitate this mandate, including:
- Site selection services for businesses expanding within or establishing a Richmond Hill presence.
- Investment marketing and promotion programs.
- Information, research and communication of economic indicators, demographics, the real estate market and the local economic base.
- Advice and information on government and other business assistance programs.
- Facilitation of strategic and economic alliance partnerships to encourage joint ventures, licensing agreements, technology transfer, and/or mergers/acquisitions.
- Small business consultations, seminars and self-help services to entrepreneurs.
- Downtown Facilitation and Revitalization.
- Film Liaison, Video and Conference Attraction.
