December 19, 2011 - GTA Post-Secondary Programs for Industry Listing

Richmond Hill now maintains a listing of programs for industry offered by post-secondary institutions in the GTA. By participating in these programs, local businesses can find training programs, research and commercialization assistance and potential future employees.

November 30, 2011 - Richmond Hill Entrepreneur Recognized with RBC Women Entrepreneur Award

At a gala ceremony in Toronto on November 28, Gloria Rajkumar, President and CEO of Richmond Hill-based SIMAC Canada Inc., was presented the prestigious RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award in the Momentum Category. Gloria was among the 18 finalists from across Canada representing a diverse and impressive range of successful women-owned businesses.SIMAC provides independent medical assessments to insurers, employers and legal representatives.

The Momentum category recognizes an entrepreneur who has overcome obstacles and capitalized on opportunities to deliver more than 10% growth year-over-year for more than three years. Through expanded management, empowered employees and demonstrated excellence, this entrepreneur has created a flexible and responsive business that is able to adapt to changing market environments and exploit opportunities for continued growth.

October 19, 2011 - Richmond Hill Partners Recognized for Waste Reduction

The Town of Richhmond Hill was recognized by its peers and presented with a Waste Minimization Award recognizing our partnership with Toronto Recycling Inc. (TRI), a Richmond Hill e-waste recycling firm. Since February 2011, TRI has been offering free collection and recycling of electronic materials from Richmond Hill multi-residential buildings. This new opportunity has already been adopted by 27 buildings representing 4,110 units (44%) and has resulted in the recycling over 15 tonnes of televisions, computers, cellphones and other electric items.

Toronto Recycling Inc. is located at 100 Granton Drive, Richmond Hill with over 100 employees. TRI is a M.O.E. approved e-waste disposal and processing facility, they are a Ontario Electronics Steward and ISO 14001 certified.

September 15, 2011- Richmond Hill Office Incentives Study

The Town of Richmond Hill has posted a Request for Quotation (RFQ) on www.biddingo.com for an Office Incentives Study. Building on the work of previous plans and studies, the Office Incentives Study will: provide a thorough understanding of Richmond Hill’s position in the regional office market; review and recommend incentives to attract and retain office development in Richmond Hill; and recommend actions and strategies to implement the recommended incentives. June 1, 2011- Richmond Hill Businesses Make "PROFIT 200" List

PROFIT Magazine has released their annual PROFIT 200 List which ranks 200 of Canada’s fastest-growing companies. Despite the recent global economic crisis, the businesses profiled in the 23rd Annual PROFIT 200 List have generated five-year revenue growth averaging an extraordinary 1,464%. Five Richmond Hill Businesses made this year's list: Simac Canada Inc. (#46), FouFou Dog (#47), Book4Time Inc. (#61), Medical Futures Inc. (#97) and Partners in Credit Inc. (#113).

The Regional Municipality of York and economic development partners in local municipalities have implemented Innovation in Manufacturing, a project to support local manufacturing businesses by encouraging and fostering the conditions for innovation and collaboration. May 11, 2011- Richmond Hill Teen Uses Supercomputing to Find a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis

Marshall Zhang, 16, a Grade 11 student at Richmond Hill’s Bayview Secondary School, used the supercomputer system to find a new and potentially effective drug to treat cystic fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a common, fatal genetic disease where the lungs’ normal protective coating of thin mucus becomes thick and sticky which is an inviting environment for serious and fatal bacterial infections. A genetic mutation is responsible for most cases of CF. Leading research currently in clinical trials suggests that specific drugs may help correct this defect.

May 4, 2011- Town of Richmond Hill- One of the Top 10 Cities of the Future

In the first ever fDi ranking of cities across the American Continents, Richmond Hill has been listed as one of the leading small cities of the future for 2011/2012. Richmond Hill ranked fourth and was the only Canadian city in this category. The fDi Cities of the Future shortlists are created by an independent collection of data by the fDi Intelligence division on 405 cities across North and South America.

March 2, 2011- Town Awarded with the Richard Goodman Strategic Planning Award

This Honourable Recognition award recognizes distinction in the practice of strategy and recognizes the Strategic Plan, Phase One Implementation Plan and the process and approach used by the Town to develop these documents. This award honours organizations at the leading edge of strategic practice. The award will be presented at a Community Presentation on June 13 when staff bring forward the Strategic Plan Annual Report and Phase Two Implementation Plan as part of a community presentation.
